Back in 2014, the Steam community was hit by a flurry of Early Access (EA) survival games, with one of the many being The Forest by Endnight Games.
Like several survival EA titles such as Rust, Day-Z, 7 Days to Die and H1Z1, The Forest enjoyed a long stint in development, but will finally hit release 1.0 in April 2018. The announcement was made in a Steam Community post, outlining the some details of the planned launch.
Endnight Games has also announced that with the release, the price will increase from $14.99 to $19.99, so if you enjoy survival games and have not yet had the pleasure of playing The Forest, you may want to get it before the increase.
In addition to simply launching, the game will get official controller support (useful, since the game is coming to PS4 this year as well). As far as game improvements go, “new reasons and resources” for killing the game’s ubiquitous AI foes, the creepies, will be implemented. The cold and warmth system will be addressed, most notably with a new warm suit. New buildables are incoming, as well as performance optimizations for both “late game saves” and “multiplayer save games”.
Endnight Games also teased details for a VR Mode will be released closer to the time, and we can’t wait to check that out!
