Edgerunners 2 is on Netflix now: 10 episodes, a new standalone story from Studio Trigger, and Clancy Brown voices King.
Night City isn’t done with you yet. Six years after launch, Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5, the Edgerunners 2 Update, is out today (22 October). It adds a side quest tied to the new Netflix anime, a gear set based on one of its characters, a radio station full of Edgerunners music, dual-wielding pistols, customisable arm cyberware and, the big one, official mod support on PC, Mac and consoles.
It’s live now on PC and Mac (Steam, GOG and Epic), PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Switch 2 and the Mac App Store version follow “in the days after”, according to CD Projekt Red.
The new Double Trouble perk sits in the Cool tree, with four more perks hanging off it. It lets you dual-wield any combination of Power pistols and revolvers. People have been begging for this since 2020, and Photo Mode gets new dual-wield poses so you can show it off. It also adds Cyberpunk Trading Card Game frames.

Hand cyberware customisation is in. Take your Mantis Blades, Gorilla Arms, Monowire or Projectile Launch System to one of five Glamdocs around the city (look for the spray-paint icon on the map) and restyle them. Each shop has its own intro scene and a catalogue of skins with custom colours.
The fashion crowd is looked after too:
This is the headline for a lot of people. Cyberpunk now has cross-platform mod support through mod.io, built right into the menus. You can browse and install a curated selection of player-made mods on PC, Mac, PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2. CDPR says more mods will be added over time. Modded saves get their own icon, and on console you can’t earn achievements or trophies on a modded save, so keep a clean one if you’re hunting platinums.
Console players also finally get an FOV slider.

The update rides in on the back of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, which dropped on Netflix on 20 October, all 10 episodes at once. It’s Studio Trigger and CD Projekt Red again, directed by Kai Ikarashi with Bartosz Sztybor as writer and showrunner. Don’t expect David and Lucy, though. It’s a standalone story with an all-new cast, so you can watch it without having seen the first season, and Netflix describes it as a “raw chronicle of redemption and revenge”.
Instead of one lead, it follows a group of characters across Night City, including:

Hideo Kojima also turns up again, reprising his Cyberpunk 2077 cameo. Early reviews are mostly positive. IGN liked the visuals and the “satisfying” finale, and Mashable called it a “love letter to filmmaking”. Gizmodo was cooler, saying it’s too ambitious and the pacing wanders. Season 1 set a ridiculously high bar: it had a 100% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and sent the game’s player numbers through the roof in 2022.

Remember December 2020? The game that got pulled off the PlayStation Store is now getting free updates six years later, and they’re not small ones. Official mods on console is massive. Outside Bethesda’s games, hardly anyone does it, and having it built into the menus on PS5 is a big deal. Dual-wielding should have been in from day one, but we’ll take it.
It’s also a masterclass in how to use a TV tie-in. The first Edgerunners sent the game’s player count rocketing. This time CDPR has a quest, a gear set and a radio station waiting on day one, and the game’s 70% off. Cynical? Sure. But compare it with the other big news this week, where a publisher shut down a beloved RPG studio. CDPR is still pouring work into a six-year-old game, and we’re not going to complain about that.
One warning: if you’re going to fill your console with mods, keep a clean save if you care about trophies. And go watch the anime. Just maybe not right before bed.
Oh, and if CDPR tells you this is the last one, don’t believe it. Update 2.0 was the big send-off with Phantom Liberty. Then 2.1 was “the last major update”. Then 2.2 turned up, then 2.3, and now here we are at 2.5. At this point Cyberpunk 2077 is on its final, final, final update, and we fully expect to be writing about Update 2.6 the week Cyberpunk 2 launches. Not that we’re complaining. Keep them coming, CDPR.
