Flying Hopper Arachnids can grab a fully equipped Trooper and carry them off. They appear in Advance & Secure, Horde and ARC missions.
New: Camp Rasczak training, a shooting range to test unowned weapons, and climbing and vaulting that are 100% faster.
Weapon tuning, a new Warrior Swarm mutator, and Horde backfill now paused until wave 8.
Two-year anniversary: a free four-item Third Wave Pack and a new paid 10-item Gore Supporter Pack.
Two years after leaving early access, Starship Troopers: Extermination has finally given the bugs wings. Update 13, Hoppers Take Flight, adds the flying Arachnids from the 1997 film, and true to the movie, they can grab a fully kitted Trooper and carry them off. Would you like to know more?
Now. Update 13 went live at 10am PT on Wednesday 22 October. For us, that was 6am NZDT / 4am AEDT on Thursday 23 October. It’s a free update for everyone who owns the game, and on Steam the game itself is NZ$43.59.
The update also marks two years since the full 1.0 launch on 11 October 2024, when it also arrived on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Before that it spent about 17 months in early access, starting in May 2023.

It’s taken them long enough. Hoppers are one of the most memorable bugs in the film, and a horde shooter built around holding a wall against a tide of Arachnids has always been crying out for something that simply flies over the wall. Being snatched off a ridge by a giant bug is exactly the sort of chaos this game is good at.
The less glamorous stuff matters too. A proper tutorial camp and a shooting range should stop new recruits from being dropped into the deep end and dragging the whole squad down. And doubling the vault speed fixes one of the clunkiest parts of moving around.
Extermination has always lived in Helldivers 2’s shadow. But it’s still getting meaningful free updates two years on, and it’s 16-player co-op that leans harder into the movie than anything else out there. If you bounced off it at launch, this is a decent excuse to re-enlist. Service guarantees citizenship.
