No Wipe This Weekend: Wardogs Admits Season 2 Was ‘The Wrong Call’, Brings Season 3 Forward

Bulkhead has shut down the rumours of a second Season 2 wipe, but admits speeding up progression was "the wrong call" after players hit Tier 4 armour and MBTs within days. The fix: Season 3 is being pulled forward.

No wipe. Not this weekend, anyway. After a couple of days of Steam forums and Discord channels insisting Bulkhead was about to hit the big red button again, the studio has shut the reset talk down. But it has admitted the thing everyone already knew: Season 2’s sped-up progression was “the wrong call”. The fix is a proper fresh start, which means Season 3 is coming a lot sooner than planned.

The announcement landed on the official WARDOGS account just after midnight NZT this morning (Sunday 18 October). Here it is:

What Bulkhead actually said

  • Faster progression was deliberate, and a mistake. Bulkhead says it sped up progression on purpose for Season 2, as set out in the patch notes, “but it was the wrong call.”
  • The wipe “never really landed”. Some players are reaching end game gear like Tier 4 armour and MBTs within days of a reset that was meant to put everyone back to square one.
  • No reset this weekend. The studio won’t do a “knee jerk reset”, saying it would be unfair on players already enjoying the climb.
  • Season 3 is being pulled forward. Bulkhead is “looking at significantly bringing forward Season 3 and some of its content” to give everyone a proper fresh start. No date yet.
  • Some balance fixes are coming, others are on hold. Things that are “clearly out of balance” will be fixed. Changes that have split the community will be left alone for now so the studio can see how they play out.
  • More next week. Details are promised in a dev vlog next week.

How Season 2 got here

Season 2 went live on 15 October with a full progression wipe: levels, unlocks and cash back to zero. The point of a wipe is to give everyone a few weeks of fighting on even terms before the endgame kit shows up. Bulkhead then turned the progression speed up at the same time, so the people who play all day were back in tanks almost straight away.

It didn’t help that launch day came with the Blue team bribe, which Bulkhead pulled within a day. That fix also patched a driver exploit that was letting lots of players get tanks too early. So on day one the sweats had bonus XP, an exploit, and faster progression all at once. No wonder some of them hit the endgame within days.

The post is pulling serious numbers: over 750,000 views and nearly 2,000 replies by Sunday lunchtime NZT. Most of the replies we scrolled through boil down to “just wipe it”, while people who’ve already done the climb don’t want to lose it.

Our take

Credit where it’s due. That’s two “we got it wrong” posts in three days, and Bulkhead is saying them out loud instead of pretending the forums are on fire for no reason. Not many studios manage that, and “this is what Early Access is for” is a fair point.

But let’s not pretend this is a win. Season 2 was sold as a fresh start, and for anyone who works a day job it lasted about a weekend. Now they’re stuck in lobbies with T-72s rolling over them until whenever Season 3 lands. “Unfair on everyone already enjoying the climb” is a bit rich when most of the climbing got done with bonus XP and an exploit Bulkhead has already admitted to. Skipping a knee jerk reset is reasonable. Leaving everyone else to get flattened for weeks is not, and the sooner Season 3 lands the better.

The big question for next week’s dev vlog is how fast “significantly” really is. A couple of weeks and this is a decent recovery. Two months and Season 2 goes down as the season nobody got to play properly. Fingers crossed the Limited Mode servers (no vehicles, no power weapons) show up before then, because that’s where new players can actually learn the game.

Are you happy with no wipe, or are you sick of getting flattened by Tier 4 already? Tell us in the comments, or come and moan about MBTs with the Wardogs crew in the GetRekt Discord.
