Australia’s official record lists GTA VI as R18+, with high impact violence, sex scenes and drug use.
A fresh rumour reckons NZ and Australian players are getting a cut-down GTA 6. The Australian rating confirms adult content, not the censorship story being built around it.

Australia’s official record lists GTA VI as R18+, with high impact violence, sex scenes and drug use.
Fresh reporting describes fans treating regional ratings as evidence of censorship.
The rating alone does not prove censorship or establish identical worldwide builds.
Australia’s classification does not establish whether New Zealand’s version differs.
Our take: an age-rating label is not evidence that content was cut.
Apparently getting GTA 6 first isn’t enough. Now there’s a rumour that Kiwis and Aussies are getting a censored copy, because somebody saw an adults-only rating and decided it meant missing content. That is a fairly impressive leap over the evidence.
LADbible reported the regional censorship chatter on Sunday morning NZ time. Its story describes players worrying that buying through the New Zealand store means getting a cut-down version. The problem is that an age restriction is not, by itself, evidence of edits.

Australia’s Classification Board lists Grand Theft Auto VI as R18+, with the consumer advice “High impact violence, sex scenes and drug use”. The classification date is 27 August 2026. This is an existing rating, not a new censorship announcement.
Twisted Voxel also reported that classification in October. The useful distinction here is between what a rating tells you about the content and what it establishes about differences between regional releases. Those are not the same question.

We have not independently established that every regional build is identical. Nor have we found evidence in the sources checked for this story that NZ or Australian players are receiving a censored version.
LADbible presents the rumour as debunked and quotes a Reddit rebuttal. We are not treating that Reddit comment as a Rockstar statement, a legal opinion or a technical comparison of the finished game. An Australian classification also should not be passed off as a New Zealand classification decision.

This is launch-week internet brain rot arriving ahead of the game. An R18+ label is a warning about what’s in the box, not a receipt for what someone supposedly cut out of it.
Rockstar can settle regional-build questions with a clear statement. Until then, don’t turn an age-rating badge into a conspiracy, and don’t pretend a Reddit reply is a forensic examination either. Both are shit ways to check a claim.
