TL;DR
>>

Wardogs Season 3 drops on Thursday 12 November. No start time yet.

>>

The new map, Sabatulo, is urban and close quarters, built around a hospital and apartment blocks.

>>

Seasons go to about three months, unlocks get reworked by role, and limited servers stick to early-to-mid gear.

>>

A fresh economy reset, a ban wave and a crackdown on real-money traders and XP farm servers.

>>

Bulkhead admits Season 2 was overcooked: the Blue bribe, rushed progression, exploits and too much content too fast.

Season 3 of Wardogs drops on Thursday 12 November, and Bulkhead has finally put out the devlog it pulled last week. The short version: a brand new urban map called Sabatulo, longer seasons, a reworked unlock system, limited-gear servers, a fresh economy reset and a big ban wave. The long version comes with something you don’t hear from game studios often: a fairly frank list of everything it got wrong in Season 2.

“No social experiments. No reactivity,” is how Bulkhead sums up Season 3. If you’ve been anywhere near the GetRekt Discord over the last month, you’ll know exactly which experiments it means.

Here’s the full 14-minute devlog, which dropped on the official WARDOGS channels at about 8am NZT this morning (Saturday 7 November):

WARDOGS | Road to Season 03, the full devlog from BULKHEAD.

Sabatulo: the new map

Sabatulo is the headline act. Bulkhead says it “brings urban warfare and close quarters combat to WARDOGS”, which is a big change of pace from the open fields and long sightlines the game has been about so far. Going by the key art, it’s a war-torn town built around a hospital, the Sabatulo Clinic, with apartment blocks, a chunky industrial tower and plenty of rooftops for snipers and helicopter drops.

Expect tighter fights, more room clearing and a lot less of getting dropped from 400 metres by someone you never saw. Whether vehicles and armour feel as good in narrow streets as they do in open country is the big unknown until Thursday.

Everything changing in Season 3

  • Start date: Thursday 12 November. Bulkhead hasn’t given a time yet. Season 2 went live after a maintenance window that ran 8am to 9:30am UTC, which was 9pm to 10:30pm NZT, so keep that Thursday night free just in case.
  • New map: Sabatulo, urban and close quarters, as above.
  • Longer seasons: no more monthly seasons. “We can’t do monthly seasons. We can’t keep up,” executive producer Joe Brammer told PCGamesN. The plan is roughly three-month seasons, with a smaller update halfway through.
  • Multi-track unlocks: progression is being reworked so it’s less of a straight line up one tree with all the best kit at the end. According to a summary of the devlog by Russian outlet PlayGround.ru, gear that suits several roles will unlock by levelling each of those roles.
  • Limited servers: a separate server type that sticks to early-to-mid game gear. PCGamesN reports it removes power weapons, high-tier armour and the big vehicles such as tanks and artillery. The name isn’t locked in yet. “Primitive” was one of the options floated.
  • Economy reset: Season 3 comes with a fresh economy wipe, so everyone starts from scratch. Again.
  • Gold skins hang around: because Season 2 got cut short, Bulkhead is extending how long its gold skins are available.
  • Ban wave and RMT crackdown: the devlog has whole chapters on fair play, banning real-money-trading accounts, anti-cheat and a Season 3 ban wave. PlayGround.ru’s summary puts it at 185,000 accounts banned after machine learning analysis of 187 million hours of play, with about 4.89% of players estimated to have used cheats. It also says the private servers used to farm cash and XP have been shut down and their owners permanently banned.
  • Next year: again per PlayGround.ru, a player trust rating and a full progression overhaul are planned for 2027.
  • Patch notes: the full Season 3 patch notes preview lands “early next week”. Expect weapon and balance details then.

What went wrong in Season 2

Season 2 went live on 15 October and lasted about three weeks before Bulkhead admitted it needed a do-over. The devlog’s chapter on it is literally called “Season 02 Overcooked?”. Spoiler: yes. Here’s the rap sheet.

  • The Blue Team bribe: Lonestar (Blue) was winning about 10% of matches, so Bulkhead decided to pay people to play it. Every sweat in the game piled onto Blue overnight, lobbies broke, and the bonus was pulled in less than a day. “We were wrong, we f***ed up,” Brammer said.
  • The driver exploit: players set up a forward base nearby and spammed quick trips to level the Driver role, which got tanks onto the field way too early. Exploiters copped 24-hour bans.
  • The wipe that never landed: Bulkhead deliberately sped up progression, and admitted it was “the wrong call”. Players were in Tier 4 armour and main battle tanks within days of a reset that was meant to level the field.
  • Too much, too fast: Brammer called trying to “stuff as much as possible into Season 2” a “huge mistake”, adding “the quality dropped” and “the whole season was too fast”.
  • The reviews: Brammer admitted he rushed out video responses because Steam’s algorithm stops pushing games whose recent reviews slip to Mixed, and said they “didn’t sell many new copies” that weekend.
  • The cheaters and the ping cap: on 21 October Bulkhead capped server ping at 175ms to keep cheaters from far-off regions out of busier servers. Brammer admitted it was “harming a % of players” to “protect the larger”. If you play with mates overseas, you may have found yourself locked out.
  • A cut-short season: to fix the mess, Bulkhead pulled Season 3 forward, which is why we’re getting a new season after barely four weeks.

To be fair to Bulkhead, it’s owned all of it, which is more than most studios manage. It also has the cash to fix things. Wardogs topped Newzoo’s September PC revenue chart ahead of Fortnite and FC 27. But it’s been a messy few weeks, and that’s before you get to Brammer telling Edge that devs on US$100K who won’t do overtime are talking “Californian bulls***”. He also told Edge the studio is taking December off, and suggested players go play GTA 6 while they’re away.

What’s in the devlog

If you want to skip straight to the good bits, here’s where everything is in the video:

  • 0:19 Foundations of Season 03
  • 0:54 Stability and consistency going forward
  • 1:50 Season 02 overcooked?
  • 2:44 Season 03 foundation and new map
  • 4:21 Multi-track unlocks
  • 5:19 Limited servers
  • 6:26 Fair play and integrity
  • 6:52 Banning RMT accounts
  • 8:39 Anti-cheat
  • 9:52 Season 03 ban wave
  • 11:12 Future anti-cheat plans
  • 12:00 Reviews

Our take

This is the Season 3 pitch Wardogs needed. Sabatulo looks like the most interesting thing Bulkhead has shipped since launch, longer seasons mean progress actually counts for something, and limited servers are a proper answer for anyone sick of getting farmed by tank crews on day three. A real ban wave is overdue, too. Anyone who’s played Wardogs on an Oceania evening has had a match ruined by someone who was clearly not that good.

But we’ve heard “we’ve learned our lesson” before, and Season 2 had a plan too. The real test is Thursday night and the first fortnight after it. If the economy reset holds, the unlocks don’t get sped up the minute player counts dip, and nobody gets paid to play Blue, then this is a genuine reset. If not, December off is going to feel very long.

The GetRekt crew will be on Sabatulo from day one. Red or Green, never Blue. Come squad up in the GetRekt Discord and catch up on all our Wardogs coverage.
